2014 College Highlights

April 2

Three BLA Alums made an impact for the Binghamton Bearcats in there 10-8 nail biting loss to nationally ranked #8 Syracuse. Garrett Augustyn scooped up 1 ground ball, Shawn Needham had 2 caused turnovers and Matt Springer had 1 goal and 1 groundball in the game.

March 31

J.D. Recor was selected as the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) rookie of the week for the third time this season and second consecutive week. Recor had 1 goal and 5 assists in two games this week.

BLA alum Alex Govenettio had 12 saves and 3 groundballs for the Canisius Golden Griffns in there  14-10 win over nationally ranked Albany. This was the first time in school history that the Golden Griffins have beaten a nationally ranked program.

Patrick Maloney scooped up 3 ground balls and caused 3 turnovers for the Mercyhurst Lakers in there 10-5 victory over the Lindenwood Lions. Maloney and fellow BLA alum Andrew Wagner hope to hold down the fort against #6 Dowling College on 03/25/14.

BLA Alum Austin Goltz scored his first goal for the Providence Friars in a 12-11 double overtime loss to the Brown Bears. This was the freshmans first appearance for the Friars this season and we hope to see much more of him as the season goes on.

BLA Alum Steve Dalton had 4 groundballs and 3 caused turnovers for the Brockport Golden Eagles in there 13-8 victory over Elmira. Dalton now has 12 groundballs and 7 caused turnovers on the season.

Brett Librock had 1g and 1a in the Yellow Jackets 17-2 win over Bethany (W. Va.). Librock has 3g and 6a on the season. Baldwin Wallace is now 4-1 on the season. Their next game is at Thiel College in Pa. on Sat, March 22nd

Max Maxwell, attackmen for the UMBC Retrievers, scored 1 goal and had 1 assist in their loss to Towson. Maxwell has 5 goals and 5 assists on the season. The Retrievers play at Mt. St. Mary’s Sat, March 22nd.

Billy Jacobbi, sophomore attackmen at Canisius College, tallied one goal in the 5-4 win over Monmouth. The Golden Griffs now have an even record of 3-3. Canisius takes on Detroit home on Sun, March 23rd.

BLA Alum Luke Walsh helped the #5 Denison Big Red beat Stevens 19-17. Walsh had 2 goals and 2 assists in the game bringing his totals for the year to 10 goals and 5 assists in just 5 games

BLA alum Brandon Wrobleski had 2 groundballs and 2 caused turovers for the Medaille Mavericks in their season opener against the Babson Beavers.

BLA Alum Billy Jacobbi scored a career high 4 goals in a heartbreaking overtime loss to Hobart. Jacobbi now has 7 goals in 5 games for the Griffins and has became one of Canisius' biggest offensive threats

BLA Alum Max Maxwell chipped in 1 goal for the UMBC Retrievers in there 15-6 win over Mercer. Maxwell now has 4 goals and 6 points in the first 5 games of his freshman campaign.

BLA alumni, Kyle Zittel (Eden, NY) Junior midfielder at Penn State University, had 4 ground balls and 2 caused turnovers in the 15-11 loss against No.9 ranked Denver University. Their record is now 3-2. PSU takes on Massachusetts Sat, March 15th at home.

Brett Librock (East Amherst, NY/ Williamsville East), Freshman midfielder at Baldwin Wallace University, tallied 3 assists in win over Olivet College. Librock has 2 goals and 5 assists on the season. The Yellow Jackets take on Hanover March, 16th.

Mitch Wilson (Orchard Park, NY) had 1 goal and 5 gbs against High Point Saturday. Wilson also went 9-19 at the faceoff X. The VMI Keydets will play Mercer Sat, March 15th.

Freshman Tim Wagner recorded his first 2 goals of his career with the St. John Fisher Cardinals in a 14-1 Victory over DeSales.

BLA alum John Januszkiewicz helped the Ithaca Bombers to a convincing 15-3 win over Lycoming with 2 goals and 3 assists. Januszkiewicz has had a great start to his freshman campaign with a total of 7 goals and 11 points in just 3 games.

BLA alum Mitch Wilson has had a tremendous rookie campaign at the faceoff X for the VMI Keydets so far this season. Wilson went 9-14 at the faceoff X to help his team to there first win over a Division 1 Service Academy in school history. Wilson also scooped up 6 ground balls in the 6-4 victory over Air Force.

BLA alum Andrew Wagner helps #2 Mercyhurst hold the powerful #9 Pfeiffer offense to only 5 goals in a 12-5 victory for the Lakers. Wagner tallied 3 groundballs and 2 caused turnovers in the game.

BLA alumni, Matt Springer (Hamburg, NY) Senior attackmen at Binghamton University, tallies 4 goals in OT win at Hobart. Garret Augustyn also had a good game with 1 caused turnover and 1 ground ball.  Bringing the Bearcats to an even record of 2-2 (2-0 on the road). Springer has 12 points (11-1) on the season.

After recording 1 goal and 2 assists in his first NCAA game, BLA alum J.D. Recor tallied 2 goals and 5 assists in the Marist Redfoxes first  win of the season over Marquette 16-12.

Two BLA alum, Billy Jacobbi and Alex Govenettio had standout games in Canisius Griffins win over Air Force. Jacobbi tallied 3 goals while Govenettio recorded 13 saves in the 7-6 victory.
