    Buffalo’s Dominant Defense

If anything in local sports is analogous to the people of WNY, it has been the Buffalo Lacrosse’s star studded and gritty defensemen. Hardworking, these dedicated and decorated athletes have been gaining recognition across the nation.

Garrett Augustyn - Binghamton (Amherst ’10)

    Accomplishments:

    • 2nd All WNY ‘09/’10
    • Led High School in ground balls
    • Started 9 of 14 games in 1st yr at Binghamton

Why Defense: I feel like I can use the position to showcase talent just as well as an offense player...  Also I get to hit people.

Eric Chadderdon - Ohio State (Hamburg '11)

    Accomplishments:

    •   High School All-American ‘10/’11
    •   Inside Lacrosse Top 50
    •   1st All WNY ‘09/’10/’11

Why Defence: I like to be aggressive and dictate the tempo of the game. It’s a physical position and I like the challenge of shutting down the top player on the opposing team.

Rashaun Durden - Potsdam (Williamsville East ’08)

    Accomplishments:

    • 2012 Potsdam Captain
    • NCAA DIII Honorable Mention AA ‘11
    • SUNYAC Player of the Year ‘11
    • 1st Team All SUNYAC ‘11
    • SUNYAC All-Tournament Team ‘10/’11

Why Defense: There is something about being a part of a defensive unit working to shut down an offense.  It takes a different type of person to do the dirty work knowing you will rarely get recognition. You have to play with a chip on your shoulder and that’s what makes it fun for me.

Shawn Needham - Binghamton (Hamburg ’10)

    Accomplishments:

    •   1st All WNY ‘10
    •   1st All League '09/'10

Why Defense: I play defense because it allows me to make an impact on the game, and my team. Even though you may not get as much glory as the people who score goals, you get more satisfaction from holding the other team and player you are marking scoreless, and ultimately that is what wins games.

Brian Sullivan - North Carolina (Timon-St. Jude ’11)

    Accomplishments:

    •   Under Armour Senior All-America game participant
    •   Inside Lacrosse Top 50
    •   High School All American ‘10/’11
    •   1st All WNY ‘09/’10/’11
    •   Borrelli Award Recipient
Why Defense: Coach White told me to.

Andrew Wagner - Mercyhurst (Iroquois ’10)

    Accomplishments:

    •   NCAA D-II Honorable Mention AA ‘11
    •   NCAA D-II National Champion ‘11
    •   High School All-American ‘10
Why Defense: In every sport I have ever played I have loved playing defense because you not only get to engage in more contact but also I don’t like all the glory of scoring and being an offensive player but rather being less recognized as a defensive player and doing more of the dirty work that people don’t realize as much.
